I became a Clay Evangelist exactly one year ago this month. It all started with a video by Naptural85 about the one product she’d found that eliminated her need for detangling — Yes, ELIMINATED! Doing 3 natural heads a week, the less time I can spend detangling, the better. She has an EXCELLENT post (videos, photos and other goodness) all about Terresentials. Watch my video review of this awesome earth clay here.
I didn’t know they were headquartered in Maryland-wish I would have known that when I lived there!
Honestly, she had me with her natural hair shine. A lot of the “natural research” I was doing - suggested that hair of a “certain” texture would never shine. We could only hope for sheen. My own hair was shiny in all states, relaxed, natural, transitioning, but not during damage…which is where I was a year ago. How does all of this relate to the recipe below?
If you love the clays or have been interested in trying them, THIS is the recipe! It is absolutely amazing with or without the pumpkin. You all know how I feel about my bentonite clay, but when I need some extra moisture and chocolate goodness, I love using Rhassoul clay as a deep conditioner at least once a month.
Benefits of Rhassoul Clay include:
- reduces dryness and flakiness
- removes toxins and impurities from hair, skin, and body
- balances hair and scalp sebum
- tightens pores
- improves skin texture
- thickens and softens hair
- reduces frizziness
Try the recipe below and tell me what you think. Share your thoughts in the comments! Mix Lavishly:)
Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice Deep Conditioning Hair Masque
3 Tablespoons rhassoul clay
2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
1/4 cup organic cocoa butter
1 teaspoon coconut oil
2 to 3 tablespoons raw or organic honey
A dash of cinnamon (or 1/8 tsp)
Optional: 1 teaspoon cacao powder
1 cup purified water or your hair’s beverage of choice (BOC) which includes:
coconut milk
flaxseed liquid (my favorite and what i use in this mix, click here for the recipe)
green tea
aloe vera juice
rose water - be creative!
Add pumpkin and rhassoul clay to mixing bowl. Melt cocoa butter in the microwave for about 20 seconds or until all pieces are dissolved. Add to clay and pumpkin and mix. Add coconut oil and honey. For an added bit of chocolate conditioning, add 1 teaspoon of organic cacao powder.
Heat the liquid until warm (not scalding - leads to unhappy scalp:( and add it to the mix. Try to keep from eating it as it smells WONDERFUL!
I like my mix to be less of a paste and more of a thick conditioning liquid. The clay will thicken as you mix it, literally sucking in the oil. This is ok but you may find you need more or less liquid. You cannot mess up this recipe…only your floor for a minute. Thank goodness this isn’t henna so no fear of anything turning red!
I find a more liquid mix is easier to wash out (Lavish is thick & voluptuous:) See what works best for you but put some extra towels down if you like it like mine!
Place a plastic bag on your hair and let “marinate” on your hair for 30 to 45 minutes. Rinse and style as usual.
I add A LOT of oil to my mix, almost 1/2 cup sometimes. Lavish loves it but you can decrease or increase the amount depending on your lavish hair needs!
Storage Tip: Once you’ve mixed all the ingredients you can store this clay in your refrigerator or freezer for months. Simply put it in the refrigerator if you’ll be using it in the next few weeks, or freeze it for use a few months from now! When ready to use, take it out of the freezer, let it “warm up” in the refrigerator for a day or so, and that’s it.
