Sexy Chocolate Shiny Hair Butter
Lightening Your Hair With Raw Honey
Note: Even though this recipe will lighten your beautiful, it’s the extra effects that you’ll fall in love with. Honey is a natural humectant (draws moisture from the air into your hair which keeps your from dry brittle-dom). This helps keep my frizziness non-existent and my curls soft and bouncy. You will stick to everything for about an hour…but it’s well worth it!
Out of everything we make here in LavishLand, these are our main staples. We have these, or a new experimental version of these in our home salon at all times. I do add quite a few botanical extracts (aloe, nettle), panthenol, hydrolyzed wheat protein, silk amino acids, calendula oil (my FAVORITE add in) and a few other extras depending on our hair needs.
DO YOUR RESEARCH before playing with extracts, wheat proteins, and anything that can change the wonderful natural of your hair.
I learned the hard way that henna was too strong (and my hair too dry at the time) for my cottony coils. Fortunately washing my hair with mud was better
Book Recommendations for Natural Hair Growth:
I bought this book at the height of my hair falling out and my stressing out about it! Chicoro was my best friend (on hair wash days during my detangling trauma’s) walking me through exactly what to…and it worked.
Grow It! How to Grow Afro-Textured Hair to Maximum Lengths in the Shortest Timeby Chicoro
One of my favorite tips from this book…
Take pictures of your hair -It will always look better than you think…
It’s true. The photos I took became the very first ones I started posting to this blog almost 2 years ago. Even now when I think I’m having a bad hair day…the photos say something different. As my Grandmother used to say, “The camera only takes what’s in front of it!” Well put Dollbaby

Check out Ms. Chicoro’s Dry Finger Detangling Process below.
This book is a comprehensive guide for healthy hair care regardless of it’s texture (straight, curly, natural, relaxed, kinky, nappy, cottony, wiry, and all of the other beautiful ways hair grows).
It is a little more scientific (which the scientist in me loves) and detailed.
I love this book also because the author started her own online community and created the book from her expeience…very cool!
Milady’s Skincare and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary
This is one of the books Chicoro, author of The Grow It Method, suggested. This has been an EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT resource in my understanding what the heck is in my products! When I looked at the ingredients of my go-to products, I discovered a pattern. Castor oil, ylang yang, nettle, vegetable glycerin, shea butter, some of the ingredients kept showing up. Extracts and oils that I know very well from my aromatherapy work (ylang yang for example, has antidepressant and sedative qualities that help you feel more calm and balanced).
DIYer or not, this is a wonderful reference book to add to your natural hair library. Know what’s truly natural and organic, and what’s not.
