How To Strengthen Your Hair With Vitamin B5

i have a message for you…

You are ALWAYS stronger than you know…and so is your hair!

bananas are deeply moisturizing, conditioning, and naturally softening to your luscious skin and curly coils.

i gave myself a really good haircut last month  (2 inches all over), to give my Succulent Fro shape. I started doing panthenol treatments (again) and love the soft kinky cottony feel of my hair after each treatment. 

i’ve included the recipe for you, along with the easiest ice cream recipe you will ever make!

Here’s the lowdown on Queen B…

Bananas are packed with:

  • Potassium (422.44% - lowers your risk of heart disease and prevents plaque buildup in the arteries)
  • Vitamin B6 (25% - prevents insomnia, reduces irritability, balances mood)
  • Vitamin C (14% - prevents skin wrinkling)
  • Manganese (16% - a mineral that controls blood sugar, alleviates PMS)
  • Biotin (10% - ‘supports the health of the skin, nerves, digestive tract, metabolism, and cells’)
  • Fiber (12% - decreases your risk of stroke, improves weight loss)
  • Copper (10% - gives you energy, helps maintain blood volume, helps balance cholesterol)

 

Conditioning with Vitamin B5

According to Milady’s Skin Care and Cosmetics Ingredients Dictionary, Vitamin B5 (Panthenol), is a penetrating moisturizer that:
  1. aids in tissue repair
  2. penetrates the skin 
  3. is an anti-inflammatory agent
  4. converts into pantothenic acid (a B complex vitamin)
  5. nonirritating skin softener
  6. nonsensitizing
  7. moisturizing
  8. conditioning feel
  9. adds suppleness to skin
  10. promotes normal keratinization and wound healing
  11. prevents hair damage 
  12. protects the skin against sunburn
  13. provides relief for existing sunburn
  14. conditions hair without buildup
  15. humectant that holds and attracts water from the environment that creates a moisturizing effect

 

I add between 1/8 tsp to 1/4 tsp to my flaxseed jellys, leave-ins, hair teas, tonics, and conditioners. This gives my hair an instant power boost without the crunchiness.

**Quick Note | Less is best when testing this panthenol in your handmade products. Even 1 to 2 drops can be enough.**

If your hair loves Vitamin B5 treatments, consider adding panthenol to your natural hair care regime. 

 

Recipe | Banana-Nilla Vitamin B5 Luscious Hair Smoothie 

1 ripe banana (blended)

3 tablespoons raw honey 

1/2 cup greek yogurt

2 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar

1/8 tsp DL Panthenol 

vanilla essential oil (or your favorite)

Instructions:

  1. Apply to the ends of your hair.
  2. Let condition 20 to 45 minutes.
  3. I like to leave mine on for the day, but test this recipe on your hair to see how long works wonderfully for you!
  4. Rinse & style!

I bought my panthenol from here. Many online stores carry it, including LotionCrafter & BrambleBerry (although it’s in powder form). I prefer the liquid, but see which works better for your gorgeous hair! Check local shops and The Google for your search.
