Lavishly Natural’s Coconut Cream Hair Mask

August 6, 2015 by Erica King

Hello Gorgeous!

Today’s recipe is my new deep conditioner that I don’t even have to…make!

It has 1 main ingredient — the Coconut.

The water, meat, and oil of the coconut help heal the immune system, alkalizing the body, and improving skin and hair.

Coconut milk is a delicious, healthy alternative for those of us who are allergic to milk, tree nuts and peanuts (ruling out almond milk – which is also delicious).

Coconut Milk & Water Benefits

Coconut milk is high in fatty acids and contain lauric acid, which is the antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial powerhouse that boosts your immune system. Coconut water is so nourishing and hydrating to our system, it can mimic human plasma.

What’s the difference between young green coconuts and mature coconuts?

The younger variety of coconuts have more water in them, a softer gel-like ‘meat’ and essentially more nutrients (the nutrient and physical characteristics change as the coconut matures).

When my family was on The Body Ecology Diet to help my son heal gastrointestinal dysbiosis, young green coconuts, coconut water, and coconut oil were a big part of our diet.

I believe coconut water kefir has causes profound improvements in my son’s health and recovery.

Did You Know…

Coconut water was given to soldiers during World War II through IV to prevent dehydration. Saline solutions were in ‘short supply’ so medical professionals gave coconut water intravenously. Although not recommended today (the IV version that is) guzzling this delicious beverage can have wonderful results on your system too.

*Other benefits:

  • They’re filled with electrolytes and potassium
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Rejuvenates the skin
  • Nourishing and moisturizing for hair
  • Helps improve digestion
  • Heals the gut
  • Has a toning effect on the intestines helping to flatten the abdomen
  • Cleanses the liver (which controls your skin, joints, and eyes)
  • Contains lots of B Vitamins (natural mood boosters that help you feel good)
  • Packs an abundance of magnesium, potassium, calcium and natural sodium – giving you shinier hair, glowing skin and stronger nails
  • Has a cleansing, detoxifying effect on your endocrine system (thyroid, adrenal glands, ovaries, and pituitary glands)

Coconut Cream Hair Mask Recipe

Hair Mask Benefits:

  • adds shine and sheen
  • conditioning
  • nourishing
  • moisturizing
  • some naturals experience more curl definition and elongated curls
  • extreme softness

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup coconut cream
  • Optional - add one or all 3: 1 tsp aloe vera gel, 1 tsp coconut oil, 1 tsp raw agave syrup

For this recipe, I mostly use it right out of the can. I apply coconut oil to my ends after the wash, plus I’m still trying to feel what my natural sebum feels like. I’m still not really sure, but I think I have some coverage.

With this recipe, I’ll sometimes mix in fresh aloe vera gel (about 1 tsp), but that’s it. It goes on like butter, melts in your hair, and smells great!

Instructions

  1. Apply to the ends of your hair.
  2. Wrap hair in a plastic bag and let conditioner sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Use indirect heat for a deeper conditioning experience!
  4. Rinse and style for added shine and awesomeness.

Notes…

I’ve used young green coconuts for this recipe, but you may also use mature coconuts, store bought coconut cream, and coconut flakes (unsweetened and fine) to make your own.

Recipe Videos

If you search for coconut cream conditioners on YouTube, you’ll find a lot of videos under Coconut Cream Relaxers. Many naturalistas add additional oils, nectars, and honey (here’s a good one).

I was looking for a simple conditioner that I could use in place of my clay during the Water Only Hair Wash Method (I’m on Day 18 now:).

I’ve been making my own coconut cream and coconut oil for a few months. I don’t have a video yet for the coconut oil, but check out my video for coconut milk/cream.

Try this coconut cream recipe from Goddess Michelle’s YouTube Channel, My Invisible Chrysalis.

Michelle is using a mature coconut to make homemade coconut cream, along with mango ice cream (looks delicious) and a coconut oil recipe at the end — yes, she has a HOMEMADE COCONUT OIL RECIPE — whaaaaa!
