By Day Three of the Max Hydration Method, I was done.
Had it not been for this Cherry Lola Caramel Treatment, I was chuckin the deuces and putting in havana twists.
On the third day I was tired and low on clay (both rhassoul and bentonite). My hair felt really good when wet, but extremely dry when dry. I bought some new leave-in conditioners from CVS thinking they would help. I also re-ordered my clay and hoped it would be here before the end of the week (it wasn’t).
Luckily I found more in the kitchen, and under the sink; and some I didn’t know I had mixed with amla powder. I do love a great clay wash, like these here, here, and here.
The new leave-ins made my hair really fluffy and full of body but didn’t help with frizz, curl definition or additional hydration I could see or feel. I decided I would skip the conditioner steps on Days 4 & 5 to see if I noticed a difference.
My hair was softer when dry and less frizzy on the top.
I read that your hair probably wouldn’t reach maximum hydration all at the same time. Some sections may hydrate quicker than others.
The very back and some of the sides seemed to be coming back quicker than the rest of my hair but there is still alot of frizz and dryness at the top and the front.
I did the cherry lola caramel treatment and it stopped the dryness instantly.
It had a hydrating effect on my hair. My hair is less frizzy but I also think I’m better with the method now. Let’s just say I got so frustrated with this technique on Day Three, I was literally throwing clay into my hair.
It wasn’t pretty.
But by Day Five, I had all of the ingredients for the CLCT, so I put the ingredients in the blender, and then my hair.
Here’s the recipe:
- 1/2 of an overripe banana or plantain
- 1/2 avocado
- 2 tablespoons greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons organic apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons raw honey
- 2 tablespoons liquid aminos (I bought this from Amazon)
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
- 1 tablespoon unsulfured molasses
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Add honey, liquid aminos, molasses, banana and yogurt to blender. Blend for 2 to 4 minutes or until banana and avocado reach smoothie texture.
- Add yogurt, baking soda, and egg and blend for 1 to 2 minutes. The treatment should have the consistency of a smoothie.
I scooped and poured this into my bottle (for quicker application and less mess). I also made a fresh flaxseed chia seed gel. That’s what’s in the bottle next to the CLCT.
My Results
The overall result — I LOVED IT! It was easier to put in than clay and I left it on for about an hour. It left my hair soft and silky, my ends felt super hydrated and soft — NOT DRY for the first time in weeks.
This recipe was so good, I made it again without the baking soda, apple cider vinegar, and molasses and used it as my deep conditioner on Day Seven.
It was WONDERFUL!
This treatment decreased a lot of the frizz and helped my hair absorb the clay and gels a lot better. I’m not going for a wash-n-go look all the time, but I do like that hydrated curls.
These curls remained after my hair dried for the first time after the cherry lola caramel treatment. I’ll probably repeat this again in a few weeks. Since my hair is doing well without more baking soda, I’m leaving it out.
I bought both of these from CVS but you can find them online:
My hair isn’t as dry as it was but it’s still not fully hydrated. I am actually enjoying the method a little better now. I start the process in the morning or at night before bed and that’s helped with time.
My clay order should be here this week, along with some Fro Butter I ordered that I CAN’T WAIT to try.
Does the Max Hydration Method sound like something you would try?
